"The West is not a place, it is a state of mind"
The originators. Founded in 1946 in Denver and still in the same location run by a third generation of the Weil family. Founder Jack Weil’s (1901-2008) innovations in the shirt industry focused on quality shirts and apparel for ranchers, farmers and their families, emphasizing unique designs and features including snap closures on the pockets and shirt fronts and cuffs to prevent the loss of pocket contents and replacing buttons. The snaps were also used to allow the shirt to give away quickly when caught on thorns or horns preventing rips. Rockmount's magic in popularizing western wear was an appeal to vanity. Cowboys have a strong independent identity and want to be different. Rockmount’s distinctive designs offer them a special fashion statement. Not so much to be worn while they work the ranch but to make them stand apart from “city slickers” when they come to town. These western shirts are dress-up finery, to be worn on Saturday night in town or at the rodeo.
Using 100% natural cotton and durable cotton and wool gabardines, the shirts have found appreciative cutomers from founding ranching and homesteaders in the west to "city folks", actors, musicians, entertainers, and recording artists.
Although Rockmount does offer traditional "slim fits" on some shirts the shirts in general have a relaxed, comfortable and oversized fit. They can be gently machine washed and steanm ironed if desired but they will last longer and look better if professionally dry cleaned.
